In this paper the authors assess the potential benefits of introducing dual-purpose sweet potato in the mixed crop-livestock systems of East Africa, with an example of Vihiga district in western Kenya. The analysis supports the hypothesis that dissemination of the dual-purpose sweet potato could help improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers operating in mixed crop–livestock systems in east Africa.
